Another Armed Robbery in South Attleboro

ATTLEBORO- For the second time this month a pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in South Attleboro. This time the robbery occurred in front of 116 Curtis Avenue which is just blocks away from the March 3 robbery which occurred on Hackett Avenue. The Papa Gino's Pizza delivery driver described his robbers as two black males who displayed a black 9mm handgun. They fled on foot after the holdup. According to police about $40.00 was taken from the driver and he was uninjured.

The assailants from the March 3 robbery remain at large also,while Attleboro detectives continue that investigation. A Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit responded to this most recent robbery which occurred around 9:30pm Monday evening. Extra patrol units flooded the area but as of this post no one had been captured. Log on to ACN for future updates.

Pieces Fall from Route 95 Bridge

ATTLEBORO- Early Monday afternoon Attleboro Police were dispatched to North Avenue under the Route 95 bridge for pieces of concrete in roadway. Upon inspection by first arriving patrolman, Larry Velino, he was able to determine that pieces of the concrete bridge itself were coming off the underside. The roadway was immediately shut down while other Attleboro Police cruisers shut down lanes of Route 95 North.

No damage or injuries were reported from the falling pieces of bridge material and Mass Highway was notified. Attleboro Fire Engine 1 also responded to the scene along with additional police units, including Chief Richard Pierce. Once Mass highway was on scene it was determined that the concrete would have to be replaced on the underside of the bridge. No timetable for starting the repair was given but the job was estimated to take a day once begun according to Mass Highway.

For the safety of the public that stretch of road was to remain closed. ACN will bring you any major updates. Photos from the scene below.

Update: The bridge was repaired overnite and both roadways (North Ave and Rt 95 North) are now completely open to motorists.

Driver Strikes Pole in Parking Lot

ATTLEBORO- An accident in a parking lot off of Pleasant Street left a car damaged but the driver uninjured. The accident occurred in the Dollar Store parking lot around 2;00pm today. The air bags deployed inside the car but the elderly driver declined medical treatment from Attleboro Rescue 1. Attleboro Police investigating the accident stated the man did not see the post.

2nd Rollover Crash in Attleboro

ATTLEBORO- For the second time today, and in the same vicinity, a car crash resulted in a rollover of the vehicle. This time a SUV with three persons was struck on Toner Boulevard by a pick up truck exiting Route 95 north. The accident resulted in the SUV rolling over on its roof and sustaining heavy damage.

Upon the arrival of Attleboro Fire and Police Departments all occupants were outside their vehicles. Two additional ambulances were requested for the three injured persons from the SUV. North Attleboro Rescue 2 assisted the Attleboro rescues in transporting the injured to Sturdy Hospital.

Attleboro Engine 1 remained on scene while the SUV was up righted and towed. The accident is under investigation by Attleboro patrolman Michael McNeil.

Early Morning Accident in City

ATTLEBORO-  Early this morning Attleboro Fire and Police Departments responded to North Main Street in the area of Commonwealth Avenue for a rollover accident that snapped a telephone pole. The female driver was uninjured in the 1:10am accident but was arrested by Attleboro Police on charges of operating under the influence. Her vehicle was heavily damage and a National Grid crew had to be called to the scene to repair the pole. Photo below of the crash scene.

Fatal Car Crash in Attleboro

ATTLEBORO- A Rhode Island man was killed and a young child suffered serious injuries in a car accident on Route 95 this afternoon. Attleboro Fire and Police responded to Route 95 North in the area of Exit 3 on ramp around 2:30 pm and found a small car up against the guard rail. At that time they encountered an adult male who had been ejected from his vehicle and down the embankment. He suffered massive head trauma and was declared dead at the scene. The child was found in the back seat of the vehicle and was transported to Hasbro Childrens Hospital in Providence.

The circumstances of the accident are unclear at this time but Attleboro Police detectives, including Sgt. Arthur Brillon, were on scene along with the Massachusetts State Police and their Airwing Unit. They are continuing an investigation and ACN will bring you all the updates. Canton Train Collision

CANTON- There were major delays for commuters along the MBTA Boston to Stoughton route today as a Stoughton bound train carrying some 300 passengers was struck by a runaway CSX boxcar carrying a load of wood in Canton.

It was reported that the commuter rail train was sitting on the tracks stationary when it was struck. The conductor stopped the train when he noticed the oncoming box car and possibly prevented a major disaster. The conductor was among the injured.

The Canton fire department quickly struck three alarms shortly after they arrived and declared a level 2 MCI. Sources say there were about 100 passengers injured, all of which are said to be minor in nature. The incident eventually went to five alarms total for manpower. The accident occurred behind a neighborhood on Culloden Dr and injured commuters had to be assisted through the woods. Several towns assisted including twenty ambulances from neighboring towns and private companies.

4 Alarm Fire in Taunton

TAUNTON- A fire in a commercial building on William Hooke Lane required 4 alarms to bring it under control late Monday afternoon. Upon arrival a 2nd alarm was immediately transmitted as firefighters had a heavy smoke condition which eventually escalated to heavy fire conditions within the 1 and 2 story structure. The fire then vented through the roof. Extensive mutual aid from Bristol County responded to the fire and companies remained on scene for several hours extinguishing the blaze. Tech Rescue in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO- North Attleboro firefighters made quick work of a technical rescue today as they freed a man who had his hand trapped in a "Bobcat" machine. Firefighters responded to the rear of 223 Kelley Boulevard shortly before 2:30 pm today. Engine 1, first on scene, found a male patient who had his hand wedged in between the frame and hydraulic arm of the machine. Engine 1 requested the portable jaws unit and a halligan tool and with the assistance of Car 3, Ladder 1, and Rescue 1 freed the man's hand. Fire Captain Scott Meyer, the Incident Commander, reported to ACN that the man suffered serious trauma to his hand but that his injuries otherwise were non life threatening. The patient was transported to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center for treatment by Rescue 1.
