PLAINVILLE-  A two alarm fire early this afternoon gutted a 2 story single family home on Lincoln Street. A man living in the home was rescued by a neighbor, when he crawled out the second floor onto a roof, after being awakened by his dog. The neighbor placed a ladder to the roof and helped the resident down just as firefighters arrived. Fire Destroys Three Family in Woonsocket RI

WOONSOCKET, RI- Woonsocket firefighters battled a stubborn blaze today in a three story apartment house on Pond Street at the School Street intersection. The bulk of the heavy fire tore through the third floor and attic area. Twenty minutes into the incident firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building due to the intense fire conditions in the attic and signs of a failing roof structure. Shortly after firefighters were evacuated the roof collapsed on all four sides and into the building.

It was reported that the fire was possibly fueled by gas, however this cause is under investigation.

There was no known reported injuries, to firefighters or civilians. Several people however, were displaced from their homes. Story and Photos By: Scott Langille
