Tractor Trailer Tip Over on Route 295

ATTLEBORO-  Attleboro Fire Department Engines 1 and 2, along with Rescue 1, responded to a tractor trailer rollover accident this morning on the Route 295 north exit ramp to Route 95 south. The crash sent the driver to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The tractor trailer, filled with large paper rolls, tipped over around 8:00am during the morning rush hour.

The truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of paper rolls and most likely tipped over when the load shifted inside the trailer according to a witness, said Massachusetts State Trooper Mario Monzon. Crews from Sterry Street Recovery were on scene and spent 2 hours unloading the paper rolls and righting the truck for towing.

Traffic was heavy in the area and vehicles were diverted from entering the ramp and onto Route 95 northbound. Assisting Trooper Monzon in the accident investigation was Trooper Paul Powell from the Massachusetts State Police Truck Team. Video below courtesy Mark Stockwell/The Sun Chronicle.

Accident on Route 495 in Plainville

PLAINVILLE-  Route 495 northbound in the area north of Exit 14 (Route 1) was the scene of an roll over accident with 7 victims around 11:00am this morning. Five Rescues were called to the scene including ambulances from Foxboro,Wrentham, Mansfield and two from Plainville. 5 patients were transported to area hospitals, including 4 to Sturdy Memorial in Attleboro, with minor injuries. The 2 more seriously injured victims were taken to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center in Providence

According to Plainvile Fire LT. J. R. Skinner the accident, which is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, involved 2 vehicles one of which rolled over. The "Jaws" tool was used to free two persons from a van. The accident took place on the median side of the highway in the high speed lane. Plainville and Wrentham also sent fire engines to the scene for assistance with removal and packaging of the victims for transport to the hospitals. The wet road conditions caused the highways to become hazardous at the time of the accident and the morning rain made travel difficult.

Car Falls on Man After Jack Slips

ATTLEBORO- Around 5:30pm Tuesday afternoon Attleboro Fire and Police responded to the Red Oak Trailer Park on Collins Street in the South End for a report of a man trapped underneath a car. Reports from firefighters on scene are that the man was working on his vehicle in the engine area when the vehicle dropped down off a jack and trapped him.

Firefighters stated that first responding police officers Dain Dos Santos and Joseph Daday lifted the vehicle and freed the victim before they arrived. The subject was transported to Sturdy Hospital with what Rescue personnel described as minor injuries.  A ladder truck with special air bags designed to lift the vehicle was called to the scene but cancelled enroute. ACN will update this story as more information becomes available.

Fire in Mansfield Industrial Park

MANSFIELD- Firefighters in Mansfield didn't have far to travel as the made their way from the Plymouth Street fire station to a commercial building at 31 Suffolk Road for a fire in a paper shredding machine on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the Hanna Paper Recycling plant, in the Mansfield's Cabot Industrial Park, and stretched 1 hose line to bring the fire under control in about 15 minutes. A back up hose was put in place but not used. Fire fighters remained on scene for approximately 2 hours pulling the machine apart to make sure the fire was extinguished. The cause appears to be accidental and damage was estimated at several thousand dollars. Photos by Matt Pillsbury.

Storm Damage Minor

ATTLEBORO AREA- After receiving over 2 inches of rain and heavy winds, especially overnight, the Attleboro area was spared any major damage from Saturday's storm. There were the usual reports of limbs and wires down along with some localized power outages and a few minor motor vehicle accidents. False alarms were also received at many area police and fire department due to the power outages.

Overall the area was spared any major damage and while the winds were still strong this morning the area was expected to dry out and become cooler today.
