
North Attleboro- Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at 65 West St at 3:45 this afternoon. The first arriving engine had heavy black smoke coming from the first floor windows of the three story dwelling in the north end of town. Upon entering the building firefighters found moderate fire conditions in the first floor kitchen. It took crews about ten to fifteen minutes to extinguish the blaze which was contained to the first floor.
No one was home at the time of the fire, however two dogs were inside at the time. One of the dogs was rescued by firefighters, the other had perished inside the home. Crews administered oxygen via mask to the rescued dog helping it to breath. Animal control was on scene to assist the dog's owners.
The fire is believed to have started in a toaster oven in the first floor kitchen however it is still under investigation.
