Small Plane Crash in Easton

EASTON- The photos above and below are from the crash of a Beachcraft Bonanza airplane that was traveling from Long Island, New York to Boston on Tuesday. The trip was an Angel Flight which transports cancer patients, this one a man and his wife, for treatment. The location of the crash was the parking lot of the Hannaford Supermarket on Route 106 in Easton on the Mansfield line. There were 3 fatalities reported and the NTSB and FAA are investigating. Several Brush Fires Sweep Through Area

ATTLEBORO- Dry and breezy conditions kept several area fire departments busy throughout the past five days battling stubborn brush fires.

Rehoboth Fire Department worked a large area of grass and brush burning out of control yesterday afternoon. The fire happened to be on a farm and destroyed several chicken coups.

Attleboro firefighters battled two large areas of brush, one in the area of Snell St, and the other on the Attleboro, Pawtucket line in the area of trailer homes. Several towns assisted Attleboro including North Attleboro, Rehoboth, and Pawtucket. Firefighters were still on the scene of the Snell Street fire as of five o'clock.

Mansfield and Foxboro extinguished a large area of brush in the median strip of Rt 95 yesterday.

The largest of these fires occurred in Boston today. Firefighters in that capital city fought a stubborn brush fire in the Reservation Rd. area. Crews had a difficult time gaining access to the fire. It was reported that the fire had jumped the road in several different areas. The blaze went to four alarms.

3 Alarms Required for Junkyard Fire in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER- A fire overnight at Chuckrans Junkyard, on Route 104, required Bridgewater firefighters to strike three alarms for apparatus and manpower. Limited access and water problems hampered firefighters effort to get the fire under control. A heavy fire condition in a large pile of junk cars, estimated to be 2 stories high and 60x100 feet in area, greeted fire crews on arrival and an extensive operation to stop the spread of fire was begun. Extensive mutual aid from Plymouth County helped Bridgewater firefighters bring the fire under control with 90 minutes.

4 Alarm Fire in Brockton

BROCKTON- Brockton firefighters responded to 47 West Elm Street, in the downtown area, this morning for a 4 alarm fire in a 4 story brick commercial building. Heavy fire in the upper floors greeted crews on arrival and eventually extended through the roof. Extensive mutual aid from Plymouth County responded to assist Brockton firefightes in battling the blaze which took several hours to bring under control. Firefighters did an excellent job in preventing the fire from extending to the nearby Elmcourt Hotel, just 8 feet away. The fire is under investigation by Brockton officials and the State Fire Marshalls Office.

Serious Accident in Wrentham

WRENTHAM- A motor vehicle accident this morning at the intersection of of Washington Street (Route 1) and Thurston Street seriously injured a 2 year old child and also sent the child's mother and the driver of the other vehicle to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. Both adults were extricated, in about 15 minutes, from their vehicles using a hydraulic tool.

The multi vehicle accident occurred when the mini van and a flat bed truck collided at the intersection.The child remained unconscious throughout the rescue and was rushed by Wrentham Rescue to Hasbro Childrens Hospital in Providence. Mutual Aid was given from the Foxboro Fire Department and they sent a Rescue to the scene. In addition Boston Medflight helicopter was also requested by the Incident Commander but was not flying due to weather conditions.

The 8:15am accident tied up traffic in the heavily traveled area of Route 1. Log on to ACN and this story for further updates as warranted.

Canton Train Collision

CANTON- There were major delays for commuters along the MBTA Boston to Stoughton route today as a Stoughton bound train carrying some 300 passengers was struck by a runaway CSX boxcar carrying a load of wood in Canton.

It was reported that the commuter rail train was sitting on the tracks stationary when it was struck. The conductor stopped the train when he noticed the oncoming box car and possibly prevented a major disaster. The conductor was among the injured.

The Canton fire department quickly struck three alarms shortly after they arrived and declared a level 2 MCI. Sources say there were about 100 passengers injured, all of which are said to be minor in nature. The incident eventually went to five alarms total for manpower. The accident occurred behind a neighborhood on Culloden Dr and injured commuters had to be assisted through the woods. Several towns assisted including twenty ambulances from neighboring towns and private companies.

4 Alarm Fire in Taunton

TAUNTON- A fire in a commercial building on William Hooke Lane required 4 alarms to bring it under control late Monday afternoon. Upon arrival a 2nd alarm was immediately transmitted as firefighters had a heavy smoke condition which eventually escalated to heavy fire conditions within the 1 and 2 story structure. The fire then vented through the roof. Extensive mutual aid from Bristol County responded to the fire and companies remained on scene for several hours extinguishing the blaze. 3rd Alarm in Downtown Franklin

FRANKLIN- A fire in a 1 story commercial building at 2 Main Street in downtown Franklin required 3 alarms to bring it under control early Sunday evening. Fire crews from Wrentham, Norfolk, Foxboro, Bellingham, Walpole, Medway and Milford assisted Franklin firefighters in preventing the fire from extending to another nearby commercial structure. The fire was reported just before 6:00 pm and brought under control within 60 minutes.The cause of the fire is under investigation and futher updates will be provided by Attleboro Citywide News.
