Four Towns Battle North Attleboro Blaze

NORTH ATTLEBORO-  A stubborn fire in a Cape style house caused an estimated $100,000 damage to the structure and required mutual aid from three surrounding towns to bring the fire under control. The fire, which took place late Saturday night at 100 Stanley Street in the Attleboro Falls section of town, occured while the owners were sleeping. All occupants made it out of the house and no injuries were reported. Fire crews from Attleboro, Mansfield and Plainville assisted at the fire scene. Smokey Fire in North

NORTH ATTLEBORO- Firefighters battled a one room fire last night in a single family home on Elm St in North Attleboro. The fire was discovered by the occupant, at about ten o'clock, in a bedroom at the rear of the house. There were two people home at the time of the fire, and everyone managed to escape the blaze unharmed. Firefighters operated two lines and quickly brought the fire under control. Most of the damage was contained to the room of origin however there was smoke damage throughout the house. Plainville sent an engine to the scene while North Cumberland provided station coverage. Crews were on scene approximatley two hours.

Plant Evacuated After Chlorine Gas Leak

NORTH ATTLEBORO- The Metalor Technology plant, on John Dietsch Boulevard, was evacuated shortly after 10:00am this morning when chlorine gas leaked into the plant while workers were changing a chlorine tank and a piece of tubing broke, according to North Attleboro Fire Chief Peter Lamb. No one was injured in the leak but approximately 400 employees were evacuated and precautions were taken in the area for about 2 hours.

The business, located in the North Attleboro Industrial Park, is a refining plant for gold and silver and chlorine is used in the manufacturing process.

The North Attleboro Fire and Police Departments responded to the incident along with mutual aid from several surrounding towns as a initial precaution.

Fire in Raised Ranch in North

NORTH ATTLEBORO- A fire Tuesday afternoon, which was reported just after 2:00pm, caused moderate damage to a home on Cumberland Avenue in the south end of town. Fire crews had the fire in the living room area knocked down and under control within 10 minutes. They remained on scene afterward checking for fire extention and ventilating the building.

There were no injuries and the family dog was saved by firefighter Scott Langille and resuscitated by paramedic Ron Burns. The cause is believed to be accidental but is still under investigation.

Overnight Fire in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO- Firefighters in North Attleboro responded to a basement fire in an occupied dwelling overnight. The fire occurred in a multi story home located at 77 East Bulfinch Street. Capt Jack White radioed that he had a heavy smoke condition from the basement on arrival and first responding fire crews stretched hose lines into the building to attack the fire.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes,with no extension to other part of the structure, and there were no injuries reported. The cause is under investigation by North Attleboro Fire Department.

Electrical Fire at Emerald Square Mall

NORTH ATTLEBORO- An electrical fire in the walls of Elite Trading Ideas store on the first floor of the Emerald Square Mall kept North Attleboro firefighters busy late this morning and into the afternoon. The fire went to 2 alarms bringing fire crews from Attleboro, Plainville, Mansfield and Cumberland, RI to the scene and to Fire headquarters for coverage.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes but firefighters spent time checking for any fire extention in the walls and ventilating the area of smoke. During the fire approximately two thousand "back to school shoppers" and employees were evacuated from the building. Photos by Marty Pyne.

Car Snaps Pole in North

NORTH ATTLEBORO- A vehicle struck a telephone pole on Draper Avenue this morning causing it to snap in half and sending two occupants to the hospital. According to officials on scene the driver may have suffered a seizure prior to the accident. The driver along with a teenage passenger were transported to Sturdy Hospital with non life threatening injuries. A Plainville ambulance responded to the crash scene to help transport the second patient. The accident is under investigation by North Attleboro police and the North Attleboro Electric Department also responded to the scene to repair the pole and wires.

Fire Damages North Attleboro Condo

NORTH ATTLEBORO- An accidental fire in a condominium complex off of Mt Hope Street kept North Attleboro fire crews busy this afternoon. The fire, which was reported around 5:00pm, was brought under control within 15 minutes after an aggressive attack by firefighters in the attic area of the condo unit located in the "Ledges" condo complex.

Firefighters from Plainville and North Cumberland also responded to the scene to assist North Attleboro and an Attleboro Engine company provided station coverage. The fire was believed to have started from a contractor doing some soldering work in the unit.

There were no injuries reported and the exact cause and amount of damage is under investigation by Fire Chief Peter Lamb and the North Attleboro Fire Department. Photos by Greg Jolly and Scott Langille.

2nd Alarm In North Attleboro for Gas Pipe Rupture

NORTH ATTLEBORO- North Attleboro firefighters were forced to strike 2 alarms for a ruptured natural gas pipe off of Kelley Boulevard early this afternoon. Crews from Plainville Pump were doing work behind 532 Kelley Boulevard around 1:00pm when they broke a clearly marked 2 inch gas pipe.

Due to the large amount of commercial buildings and occupancy of the neighborhood Capt. Scott Meyer struck a second alarm, bringing crews from Plainville, Attleboro and Mansfield to the scene, to help evacuate over 20 business and properties in the surrounding area.

The incident was controlled and there were no injuries or resulting problems. Fire companies remained on scene for 2 hours and Bay State Gas Company was brought in to stop the gas and repair the main.

North Attleboro Fire Department Promotes Two

NORTH ATTLEBORO- Two North Attleboro firefighters were officially promoted on Tuesday night during the department's annual pinning ceremony. Firefighter Michael Chabot was promoted to Fire Lieutenant with Engine Co. 5 on B platoon and Fire Lt. Ronald Meyer Jr. was promoted to Fire Captain and Shift Commander of C Platoon.

Chabot, the son of retired North Attleboro Lt. Al Chabot, has been with the department for 12 years and comes from a long serving family of North Attleboro firefighters. Meyer, whose brother Capt. Scott Meyer commands D platoon, is a 22 year veteran firefighter. The Meyer brothers father, Ronald Sr., also served the North Attleboro Fire Department as Deputy Chief and was Chief of the Plainville Fire Department.

In addition two other firefighters Jon Underhill Jr., son of North Attleboro firefighter Jon Underhill Sr., and Seth Hagerty, son of Franklin Fire Dept. Capt. James Hagerty, were sworn in. Also Joshua Langille was sworn in as a call firefighter.
