Fire Damages North Attleboro Condo

NORTH ATTLEBORO- An accidental fire in a condominium complex off of Mt Hope Street kept North Attleboro fire crews busy this afternoon. The fire, which was reported around 5:00pm, was brought under control within 15 minutes after an aggressive attack by firefighters in the attic area of the condo unit located in the "Ledges" condo complex.

Firefighters from Plainville and North Cumberland also responded to the scene to assist North Attleboro and an Attleboro Engine company provided station coverage. The fire was believed to have started from a contractor doing some soldering work in the unit.

There were no injuries reported and the exact cause and amount of damage is under investigation by Fire Chief Peter Lamb and the North Attleboro Fire Department. Photos by Greg Jolly and Scott Langille.

2nd Alarm In North Attleboro for Gas Pipe Rupture

NORTH ATTLEBORO- North Attleboro firefighters were forced to strike 2 alarms for a ruptured natural gas pipe off of Kelley Boulevard early this afternoon. Crews from Plainville Pump were doing work behind 532 Kelley Boulevard around 1:00pm when they broke a clearly marked 2 inch gas pipe.

Due to the large amount of commercial buildings and occupancy of the neighborhood Capt. Scott Meyer struck a second alarm, bringing crews from Plainville, Attleboro and Mansfield to the scene, to help evacuate over 20 business and properties in the surrounding area.

The incident was controlled and there were no injuries or resulting problems. Fire companies remained on scene for 2 hours and Bay State Gas Company was brought in to stop the gas and repair the main.

North Attleboro Fire Department Promotes Two

NORTH ATTLEBORO- Two North Attleboro firefighters were officially promoted on Tuesday night during the department's annual pinning ceremony. Firefighter Michael Chabot was promoted to Fire Lieutenant with Engine Co. 5 on B platoon and Fire Lt. Ronald Meyer Jr. was promoted to Fire Captain and Shift Commander of C Platoon.

Chabot, the son of retired North Attleboro Lt. Al Chabot, has been with the department for 12 years and comes from a long serving family of North Attleboro firefighters. Meyer, whose brother Capt. Scott Meyer commands D platoon, is a 22 year veteran firefighter. The Meyer brothers father, Ronald Sr., also served the North Attleboro Fire Department as Deputy Chief and was Chief of the Plainville Fire Department.

In addition two other firefighters Jon Underhill Jr., son of North Attleboro firefighter Jon Underhill Sr., and Seth Hagerty, son of Franklin Fire Dept. Capt. James Hagerty, were sworn in. Also Joshua Langille was sworn in as a call firefighter.

Electrical Worker Suffers Flash Burns

NORTH ATTLEBORO- A subcontractor, doing work for the North Attleboro Electric Department, suffered flash burns this morning while working on electrical transmission lines near Towne Street and Commonwealth Avenue. Exact details of the 9:30am accident were unknown but, while working on the power lines, something went wrong resulting in the flash burns to the worker and a loss of electrical power to the area neighborhoods. The North Attleboro Fire Dept. responded to the scene and Rescue 1 transported the worker to the hospital. The resulting loss of power caused several fire alarm activations and other related problems.

Tech Rescue in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO- North Attleboro firefighters made quick work of a technical rescue today as they freed a man who had his hand trapped in a "Bobcat" machine. Firefighters responded to the rear of 223 Kelley Boulevard shortly before 2:30 pm today. Engine 1, first on scene, found a male patient who had his hand wedged in between the frame and hydraulic arm of the machine. Engine 1 requested the portable jaws unit and a halligan tool and with the assistance of Car 3, Ladder 1, and Rescue 1 freed the man's hand. Fire Captain Scott Meyer, the Incident Commander, reported to ACN that the man suffered serious trauma to his hand but that his injuries otherwise were non life threatening. The patient was transported to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center for treatment by Rescue 1.

Fire in Commercial Building in North

NORTH ATTLEBORO- The North Attleboro Fire Department responded to the Right Touch Spa at 171 East Washington Street for a commercial fire alarm that had been transmitted to the fire department at 2:20am this morning. Upon arrival fire crews started an investigation and a short time later they found smoke coming from the roof line of the 20' x 75' foot building. On the orders of Capt. Jack White the box was filled in and a working fire signal was transmitted.

When firefighters opened the first floor laundry room in the spa they encountered smoke and discovered a fire in the room which was located in the back of the building. Two hose lines were brought into the building and the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes with the use of one line. Fire damage was confined to the laundry room with smoke and water damage to an adjacent room.

Cumberland RI provide mutual aid for a Rapid Intervention Team on scene, with their Truck 5, and Plainville covered North Attleboro Headquarters. Firefighters were on scene for 60 minutes . The cause of fire was determined to be a malfunctioning clothes dryer and damage was estimated at $30,000 to $50,000, according to Fire Chief Peter Lamb. Route 95 Rollover in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO-  North Attleboro firefighters responded to Route 95 northbound, in the area north of exit 5 (Rt 152) before the Kelley Boulevard bridge, for a vehicle rollover accident. Upon arrival crews found a SUV on its roof and the pasenger out of the vehicle. Firefighters stretched a hose line for a small fuel leak and the victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The victims injuries were believed to be minor but due to the nature of the crash she was taken to the Trauma Center. The accident is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Foxboro barracks. Click below to listen to initial on scene audio.

Tractor Trailer Takes Down Wires and a Whole Lot More

NORTH ATTLEBORO- A tractor trailer turning around on an access road near Wamsutta Trailer Park, off of East Washington Street, struck some electrical wires taking down a telephone pole and a whole lot of electrical service with it. There was some minor damage to the trailer. The accident was reported around 10:30, North Attleboro firefighters responded and the fire crews were on scene for 45 minutes. The North Attleboro Electric Department was called in to repair their poles and restore service to the Park. (Photos below by Scott Langille).

New Delivery in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO- The North Attleboro Fire Department took delivery of their much needed 2008 Chevrolet 2500 Pick Up truck this week. The brand new white truck has been lettered with red graphics and was put in service recently.

According to Fire Chief Peter Lamb, the vehicle's 4 door cab will make the truck extremely useful and will serve a variety of purposes for the department, including but not limited to, transporting dive team members and their gear and towing the departments boat and equipment.

In addition the truck was fitted with a full snowplow system and will be available for snow duty for the stations. See photos of the truck below.

Stab Wound Incident in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO-  The North Attleboro Fire and Police Departments responded to 25 Depot Street, in the south end of town, for a call of a stabbing late Monday evening. Enroute fire and police learned that the stab wound, reportedly to the chest, was most likely self inflicted. Police secured the scene and fire department personnel treated the male patient. The subject was transported by NAFD Rescue 2 directly to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center with a NAPD officer escorting the crew. The scene remains active and under investigation at the time of this post. Attleboro Citywide News will continue to update this story as needed.
