NORTH ATTLEBORO- A man, who had been listed on the states 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender's list, turned himself in at the Attleboro District Court today. John Freitas, a Level 3 sex offender, was subsequently taken into custody by North Attleboro Police detectives. He was wanted on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. He was booked and being held on $25,000 bail at the North Attleboro police station.
Freitas, formerly of Attleboro and North Attleboro, has been homeless and staying in Rhode Island. The capture of Freitas caps a week long search by state and local police. He has twice been convicted of rape of a child in the 70's and 80's. He will be arraigned in Attleboro District court on Friday to face the new charges.
